Essential Driver Training (EDT) Lessons

Complete your 12 EDT lessons with RSA Approved Driving Instructor Liam Brassil. Structured one-to-one training for learner drivers across Limerick and Shannon.

What is EDT?

Essential Driver Training (EDT) is the RSA’s mandatory training programme for first-time learner drivers in Ireland. The programme consists of 12 structured lessons that help learners develop safe driving skills, road awareness, and confidence behind the wheel.

Before sitting your driving test, all 12 lessons must be completed and recorded in your EDT logbook. At SafeStart, EDT lessons are delivered by RSA Approved Driving Instructor Liam Brassil (ADI 42391) for learner drivers across Limerick and Shannon.

Learn more about Liam’s experience on the About SafeStart page, or book a Licence & Test Consultation if you need guidance on learner permits, EDT requirements or the licensing process.

What EDT Lessons Cover

EDT lessons develop the core skills needed to become a safe and confident driver.

Lessons cover car controls, observation, positioning, junctions, progress, hazard awareness, manoeuvres, and independent driving, in line with the RSA Essential Driver Training syllabus.

Each completed lesson is recorded in your EDT logbook and uploaded in line with RSA requirements.

What to Expect During Your EDT Lessons

Every EDT lesson is delivered on a one-to-one basis and tailored to your current level of experience. Lessons follow the RSA syllabus and focus on developing safe driving habits, hazard awareness and practical driving skills.

Progress is recorded in your EDT logbook after each lesson, helping you track your development as you work towards your driving test.

Learners who already hold a foreign driving licence may be eligible for Reduced EDT, while those approaching their driving test can benefit from our Driving Test Preparation lessons.
